Surfacing on Finnish label Common Labour as a fresh start for all concerned, the Dullape EP introduces the wider world to the sound of Tuomo Puranen – also found moonlighting as Aslak – with some tripped out takes on deep house. “Dullape” is dubby in its demeanour with its metallic blue chord whispers, while the beat stays dutifully on the straight and narrow with some choice vocal grunts for rhythmic interest. 20:20 Vision regular Phonogenic meanwhile chooses to head into a more brooding territory with his remix of the title track, keeping the groove lean and mean while a choice organ note lingers above. Rounding off the proceedings, Puranen works up a funk-lick fug of basement smokiness on “Etiquette”, creating a hypnotic brew with long, drawn-out nights in mind.
