Reissued from the original masters, Pal Joey unearths an early ’90s gem from his much sought-after back catalogue.
Alongside Ola Salanke, Pal Joey created ‘Aye-Le (Rough World)’ under the alias Roots Foundation, an anthemic drum focused, tribal tinged, deep house groover. The e.p. contains the three mixes from the original release, kicking off with the ‘Love Mix’, marrying a rolling bass and emotive stabs with a combination of percussive hits and tropical guitar riffs, that provide the perfect basis to enhance those hypnotic chants.
The B side houses firstly the ‘Peace Mix’, adding some choice vocal backing to ramp up the spellbinding nature of the track. Finally, the ‘Unity Mix’ rounds off the e.p. dropping the main vocals in favour of the sparse backing chants from the ‘Peace Mix’, to allow the trance-inducing groove room to do the talking.
A much-welcomed chance to own this classic slice of house gold at a fraction of the Discogs price.
